The Hunger Diaries - Weeks 6 & 7

Some more Hunger Diaries - Jasmin's last two entries, I noticed that they got shorter and shorter as she went along. For her it was all about the cooking, and then typing up her recipes in the Momento Recipe book template. This week they show-cased the skill they learnt by showing and talkimg to students from different classes their final product - in Jasmin's case it was the recipe book which we printed out two pages to a page and put into a display folder. She plans on getting the recipe book printed after she adds a few more recipes to it in the remainder of this year.

Week 7

Dear Diary

This week I made lemon sorbet which I am putting into cones to eat after dinner. Lemon sorbet was easy to make but took lots of time. For dinner we had cauliflower rice as well, it was good. We had it with dipping bread, oil, vinegar and dukkah. It was awesome "Yay!".

Even though she didn't put it in her recipe book, she did also make some crumbed salmon fillets that night (I think she thought it was a little simple and she had already put the Katsu Chicken into the recipe book, which was very similar to make).

Week 8

Dear Diary

I made my second favourite food - lasagne (only kidding). My actual second favourite food is Hamburgers! I even made the buns from scratch. Also I am making milk smoothies which will be awesome*.

I made a berry smoothie, it looked very pink and was delicious!

* I have not made it yet.

So when Jasmin said she made burgers, she really made burgers. She made the dough for the rolls (using the bread making machine - we are into using short-cuts in the Turner household wherever possible). The rolls did turn out a little doughy, but I think it was because her mum gave her the wrong flour! I must say though that the rolls were delicious - a bit like little dinner rolls.  We all got a bit of a giggle that night - as the rolls were the size of dinner rolls and the burger patties she made were humongous in comparison!

Left over onion fumes whilst chopping some parsley - led to some interesting facial expressions.

So you might ask - what are you doing Di, while your daughter cooks up a storm?

Well, I am sitting on the other side of the bench - directing Jasmin around and explaining what she needs to do, whilst taking photographs (one of my favourite things to do), whilst sipping on a glass of wine (another favourite thing to do), whilst smiling from cheek to cheek.

Cooking really is a valuable life skill that you can give your children, and for me it has already paid off.  About three weeks ago on a Thursday night I went out to dinner with some friends, instead of Dave ordering pizza to feed the family while I am out, or me running around like a headless chook preparing a meal, Jasmin offered to cook dinner - so I just left it all up to her, and went out and had a lovely meal knowing that the family was in capable hands!

The Hunger Diaries - Weeks 4 & 5

LOL - so much going on around here lately that I have gotten a little bit behind on the Hunger Diaries. Here are Jazz's entries (and pics) for the last two weeks:

Week 4

Dear Diary

It was awesome making choc-chip cookies because they were so delicious ( | : "yummy!"

I made choc chip cookies because it was book week and I dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood. So I can make cookies - they were delicious!

I also made silverside which is beef. I found silverside easy to cook. I also made pavlova - it was hard to do because you had to wait 30 seconds every time you added that fine sugar. It tasted so good, my pavlova, thanks to my mum for helping me ( I was flabbergasted by how yummy it was because I am on a healthy diet and haven't had sugar for so long).

I haven't been condemned yet, so far, so good luck to me with the last thing I'm going to make. It is ......!!!!

She even made Tuna casserole this week!

Week 5

Dear Diary

This week I made Cauliflower soup - it was easy. It had bacon in it and onion, chicken stock, potato and Cauliflower (I nearly forgot the cauliflower!). When the weather is cold we have soup night, it's normally on Monday, but we had it on Wednesday. I like this type of soup so I had to know how to make it "yay!".

As you can imagine - with all this cooking that my big girl is doing, I am a very happy Mama!
