It has been an exciting week this week.
First Number One:Starting on Saturday, we built our very first vegetable garden, in a dead spot around the side of the house. The area is sunny with a bit of shade in the morning and evening. We thought it would be a fun project for the family, that the kids could enjoy as well. I am looking forward to the fresh vegetables that we will hopefully get from it. We planted Beans and Peas, Carrots, Spring Onions and Chives, Zuchinni, Beetroot, Cauliflower, Asian Cabbage, and Pak Choi. I did squish some Thyme and Basil as well. Have been dreaming about the vegetables growing since. I know the girls will love picking and eating the fresh vegetables when they arrive.
Of course, Leslie, our brother-in-law built the vegetable boxes, and then we all went to Magnet Mart and got the lattice for the beans to climb on and to buy seeds. it was a heap of fun.

Second First:The girls went for their first swimming lessons for the year. For Eliza, this is the first time she has had swimming lessons. We enrolled them with Aquatots. Dad goes in the water with Eliza. I could see her splashing with her arms and legs (I think she was meant to be listening to the teacher though), and apparently Dave said she spent most of the lesson trying to escape from his arms, to swim by herself (she thinks she can swim already, even though she can't). She is our little water baby.
Several years ago we put Jasmin in swimming lessons, which I think was a waste of time back then, as she was frightened of the water, and would not even get her hair wet. This year we have been going to the pool ourselves and swimming with back pack and floaties, she has even been dunking her head fully under the water. So swimming lessons this year are the plan. The lessons are without backpack and floaties, so she did really well. There was only one part that she wasn't keen on trying - where they climb on this big mat, and the instructor drags them around the pool, while they kick their legs at the back. She started crying, she was pretty scared, and would not climb on. I encouraged her to get on (well actually I promised her a special treat if she gave it a try, probably not good parenting, but it did work), and she climbed on with my help and tried it, she looked like she enjoyed it in the end. She and Eliza collected on the special treat pretty soon after they got dressed.
First Number Three:Jasmin had her first day of school. The first day, was just an hour and a half in the morning, where they get dressed in full uniform, and go and play in the classrooms with the other children, and also meet their teacher and do some organised activities. The parents stay with them for the first 40 minutes, and then we tottled off to have cup of tea and coffee in the staff room. Today (Tuesday) is her first full day at school. She was a little trooper, no worries or tears at all. I didn't cry at all either, and probably won't today either , as Jassie looks so happy, and is obviously ready for this new challenge in life. Both Kindergarten teachers seem very nice.
She looked very cute ready for school, here are some snapshots of her before we left:

The fourth first:Jasmin had her very first dance lesson yesterday as well. She is in a primary class, and does a little of each dance style - classical, jazz, tap, national dance, and then they do some singing at the end. You cannot stay to watch, but can see through the little windows in the doors when you come back. She looked like she was having lots of fun. The teacher looks great, and keeps the kids really interested. They have little breaks between each style, and a drink.
She was very tired by the end of the day.
The fifth first:Eliza starts Gym Tots today. Nan will take her to this every Tuesday. I wanted to give her something fun to do as well, as she is too little for dance, and will definitely miss her sister every day, while she is at school. Eliza is a little monkey, so I am sure she will love Gym Tots.
