Day 1 - arrived in Kauai in the afternoon after our 9.5 hour flight and a shorter 1/2 hour flight from Oahu to Kauai. Enjoyed a late lunch of seafood, enjoyed some Hula Dancing entertainment at the Coconut Marketplace. We bought the girls Leuis and Jas even scored a massage.
Day 2 - Up at 6:30am to the sound of waves crashing on the seashore outside our room. My first cup of Kona brewed coffee sitting on the balcony of the room. Today we went on a road trip as far north on the island as we could go. First stop Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge and the Lighthouse, followed by Hanalei Valley Lookout at the Taro fields below. Stopped to take pictures of waterfalls trickling down the side of mountains, a stop at Ha’ena Beach Park for a dip in the ocean (and some exercise chasing Eliza up and down the beach). Dinner was at the Bar Acuda in Hanalei - a tapa's restaurant, where we had the biggest sea scallop ever!
Day 3 - Shopping at a charming little place called Old Koloa Town. Icecreams, coffee and the best Pineapple and Coconut muffin I have ever tried at Lapperts Ice-creamery. On to Port Allen, stopping at the one of the Waimea Canyon lookouts before going on our Na Pali Coastline Boat tour and dinner cruise on the Blue Dolphin.
Day 4 - Woke in time to witness a spectacular sunrise. Kauai Plantation Train Tour of the Kilohana Plantation, stopped to feed the wild pigs - the girls thought this was pretty fun. Some charming little shops, where I bought a charm bracelet made by local designer. Shopping at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center where we had lunch. Swimming at Wailua Beach, not far from our resort and then a Lu'au for dinner. Free Mai Tais and Entertainment including Hula Dancers and a fire dancer.
Day 5 - First stop Opaeka’a Falls lookout to view the double waterfall. Then a huge drive to Waimea, and up highway 550 to the Waimea Canyon lookout. We also drove further to the last lookout on the road – Kalalau Valley lookout, but unfortuneately could only see one side of the valley, as it was misty and raining! Back down to Waimea for lunch at the Da Booze Shop, where we had Cheeseburgers, a Teriburger and Loco Moco (rice, Hamburger Patti, Gravy and Fried Egg - very strange!). We also spent several hours in the swimming pool and spa. Dinner at the Coconut marketplace – Mahi Mahi and Ona fish and a “Local Boy” (Hawaaiin) Pizza.
Day 6 - A swim in the pool for the last time, before packing and making our way to the airport to catch the plane to Maui. On the way to the airport we stopped at the beautiful Wailua Falls.
